Otty Sanchez, who at this point, is only "the accused", allegedly killed her son, chopped off his head, gnawed on his toes, and ate part of his brain. He was only 3 weeks old. According to the Associated Press article, she didn't want to do it, but rather, she is cited as saying that the Devil made her do it.
According to police, she used a knife and two swords in the attack. I suppose she'll claim that, you know, it's not easy doing the Devil's work, especially when having to go up against the strength of a 3 week old child. A jury will be expected to believe that one sword just wasn't enough. And, I'm sure, a parade of Psychiatrists will testify that she had some kind of psychosis (gee, ya think?), and that this poor woman also had a eating disorder (no shit!).
Apparently, Otty never thought to discuss the situation with the Devil, and remind him that here on planet Earth, judges don't just throw their hands up and say, "Ah, another one of those pesky Devil's projects delegated to a poor mortal. OK, you're free to go". Here, in the really real world, when some nimrod kills, mutilates, and eats parts of their kid, the criminal justice system tends to take it pretty seriously.
So, yes, this woman deserves her day in court, but when the jury finds her guilty of this horrible crime, as I expect they will, I suggest that they find the most violent, deranged, cannibal killer in lock-up, open the door, throw in a chain saw, some dinnerware, and lock her sorry ass inside with him/her.
